You're looking at the winners of Monster Track X. Crihs and Heather. Both are well-seasoned riders and the grueling manifest brought out not only strategy, but endurance. The format this year was unprecedented.
Monster Track 10 from Michael Green on Vimeo.
The Manifest was about 10 checkpoints, taking you from one end of Manhattan to the other and all over in between. The top 20 back to the finish got a second manifest. The top 5 from that got the last assignment. Wilis and I rode the race together and I'm not sure how we placed. All things considered, we probably got in the 20's or 30's.
Top Racers:
1-Crihs NYC
2-Jumbo Copenhagen
3-Dan C NYC

Tom and the Delco kids did Monstertrack on brakeless BMX bikes. Well, 4 checkpoints anyway!
I didn't Google pedometer my route, partially because of Project White Rabbit. We've been talking about this for a year, taking off in the wrong direction and leading as many people as we could down the rabbit hole. We got about 20-30 people to follow us down a bottle-necked sidewalk off the FDR expressway and as we jumped the jersey barriers, we shouted PROJECT WHITE RABBIT.
Everyone was pissed!
I think Andrew Excess from Albany was video taping it, so hopefully he'll post the video somewhere.

After the race, we all rode to Galapagos in Dumbo for the Goldsprints finals and awards ceremony.

Today was the MTX stunts and sprints under the BQE at the Peel Spot. A good crowd was there and it was a lot of fun. I think everyone was beaten up and sore from the previous day and the air was frigid and filled with snow ready to drop.

Chris Kim threw the event with a 2 minute freestyle; prizes for best overall style and gnarliest trick. Wonka took gnarliest trick and Tony took overall style. I completely woofed all my tricks and fell at least 3 times. Still, at the end of the day, we had a great time.
I'm sure Demoncats will be posting pics soon and videos will surface. I'll continue to add to this post as photos and videos begin to surface.

Juliet posted a pic of what Tom and Tony were too lazy to email me. The new Charge Bucket Seat. It's based off the old Turbo saddles, which seems to be a growing trend these days and one I'll welcome with open arms.

I still love the Grunge saddles and obviously, so does my dog!

Once again, Mishka dropped a banging Keep Watch mixtape. This time they picked Skream, a dj/producer from Croydon, UK. Skream's first few eps and full lengths are some of the most influential dubstep tracks to date.
Download the Keep Watch 6 here!
Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm restructuring the Connections format of Prolly is Not Probably. I get a ton of link requests from people and rather than adding all these links to the front page, I decided to make a sub page.
If you've requested a link exchange in the past, I'm in the process of adding the links now. If you'd like a link exchange, email me!

Urban Velo has released issue 12 on their website. Grab the PDF file here and read up!
Keep in mind, your LBS should have issues for free and if they don't talk to them about getting some in!

I meant to post this earlier, but Monster Track took over. Chris Fonseca sent me an email linking a video Broakland asked him to make for the NAHBS. Pretty good mix of East and West coast trick styles, solid looking bikes and yeah, Porn.
Enjoy.

Came across The Quiet Life's new line on Digital Gravel. These two pieces stuck out for obvious reasons; 'Cyclist' cap and the 'Cyclist' t-shirt. Not sure what the significance / precedent is for the pattern, but here's their description:
Awesome bike-gear inspired styles from Andy Mueller’s The Quiet Life, done very convincingly with print placement at the shoulders, and green & black checks across the lower half of the torso. Ties in very nicely with TQL’s Cyclist cap too. by The Quiet Life.
Quick, funny, techy video from Fixika.

David from Fixtee sent over the March design entitled "GT". Nice man. Keep it up!
Untitled from Drew Leshko on Vimeo.
I was talking to Tony about Drew's new video. Thinking about how these tricks would have been in Bootleg Sessions 1 easily. At that time, a few would have been new on a fixed gear. The slider is definitely one of the better transition tricks and thanks to Sam Miller, everyone's doing them now. The progression can't die off. Especially after seeing what Wonka, Dre [Bootleg 3] and others are pulling off.
Keep it up guys!

Tony just wrote a great post over at the Bootleg Blog. I completely agree man, although I always favored this version!

Starfuckers look like they're in production with their trick bike. In case you haven't seen the old Yetis from the 1980's, this shape isn't unprecedented. It is however most likely the first time someone used it on a track frame though. It'll be interesting to see if people have the same problems with the Starfuckers frames as they did with the Yetis.
Bottom bracket sway.

If you're going to be in OZ April 18th, you should really check out the 4th annual Melburn Roobaix. Looks like a blast. Remember, Andy's a track cunt, not a dude. Don't call him "dude". He gets all salty!
See the flier bigger here!

Kevin, aka Demoncats, has just upped some of his Monster Track X pics. Head over and checkem out. Who's this jackass making the Egyptian hand signals?
Also, DELCO!
LuLz. No need for words... thanks Jesse!

You remember Alex right? Well, it seems he was chosen from 1000's of applicants to be on Gatorade's new web-series, Quest for G. Alex is in LA right now with 15 other athletes preparing for boot camp.
Way to go man!

Big, I mean small things have happened. 20" wheelset.
AC, you're nuts man!

Thanks to Simon at Hipster Nascar for the heads up on this one. NY Knicks-inspired Smeeze fixed gear shirt.
Never been a huge basketball fan, but this shirt is pretty great...
... and Simon, no, you can't say Jawn unless you're in Philly!

Mishka's accessories came out great. Love the black leather and magenta punk belt.

We're lucky enough this year to have two Friday the 13ths in a month period! The Friday the 13th Alleycat is bound to be a killer one. Check it out!
Also, there's another event happening which I can't speak of just yet. More details to follow.

Mike Martin, half the brains behind the MASH brand has branched off into cycling gear; Martin Clothing. Awesome man. Glad to see something new! Mike's always been really great to us East Coasters. He's a really fucking rad guy and I'm stoked for him. Seriously. Big ups man!
Hello,
We are Martin of San Francisco. After a decade of collaborative work with Nice Collective, we have produced an imaginative synthesis of modern cycling culture and photographic aesthetic. Clean lines, simple ideas, and thoughtful execution has brought these two worlds together in our new line of apparel.
Family is our foundation and friends our inspiration. Martin welcomes collective interaction and is excited to share “our” like-minded vision.

Mike, lemme know if you need anyone on the Right coast to test some out....

Looks like Justin got his Milwaukee up and running. It'll be interesting to hear his feedback! Looks good dude!

If you've never seen this movie. Go Netflix / buy / rent / download it.

It's been years since I first started talking to Mishka about opening a retail space in Brooklyn. Countless hours went into the design [and redesigns] and now, the time has finally come. Here's the flier and check the Bloglin for more information, including 350 Broadway exclusive New Eras, snap-back hats and their Boogieman collaboration with Cure.
Huge thanks to Joel for painting the mural at the space and to everyone at Mishka for making it happen! More to come soon!

I go to Philly for the day and this happens? Looks like KAWS, the artist who's work has literally blown the hell up over the past few years did a collaboration with Trek (do they even know who he is?) to paint Armstrong's Livestrong bike.
wow.

The NYTimes has an editorial on "The Wild Bunch" - urban cyclists. Typically the writers of stories like these don't ride in the City and depict the views of pedestrians more than cyclists. Robert Sullivan offers a great perspective on being a cyclist in NYC and the constant battles with cars and pedestrians. "No wonder they hate us"...
Oh yeah, that's Tone rocking the Mishka jacket and riding an Affinity Low Pro!
Check out the excerpt below:
When I got to Atlantic Avenue, a street I would be nervous about crossing if I were in an armored vehicle, I stopped to wait for the light as a helmetless man, riding with his child on a seat, weaved wobbly between me, the taxi and the pedestrians trying to cross, uttering not even an “on your right.” He pulled silently out into traffic, stopping halfway across the intersection to let a tractor-trailer wail by before he finished crossing against the light, the toddler in back thinking heaven knows what.
Meanwhile, another biker was about to pass him, and pedestrians in the intersection now scattered like deer. And I was thinking, “No wonder they hate us.”
Because they do hate us, they being nonbikers and us being bikers.

Spent yesterday with my boys down in Philly. Got in town around 11am or so and left at 10pm. Best time I've had in a while! Check out more pics here.

KNS.Lo in Kobe city from KNS.Lo on Vimeo.
Great video. It's pretty safe to say that Tom La Marche could do most of this on his fixed gear. A year ago, people were blown away at him doing 3 taps. Now everyone can do 3 taps. 8 months ago, people were going apeshit over his nose mannies... You see where I'm going. It may take a bit, but sometime in the near future, you'll see people doing these tricks on fixed gears.
thanks to FixPatrix for the heads!

So dudeman Kyle at DQM threatened my life if I took pics of the shoes he's working on with Nike. I tried to snap a pic of them and he threw acid at my face. Nike took the popular Air Tiempo indoor soccer shoes and used them as a model for a fixed gear shoe. I've seen them in person and they're looking very promising. Stiff sole, padded toebox, durable upper...
Now it seems that Kyle at Tracko snapped a few pics of the project. Each shoe is designed by a rider from a City; Tokyo, SF, NYC, Paris, Berlin, Austin and London.
These are slated to be released around the Summer.
Edit:

Has it really happened already? Fixed gear bike blogs being syndicated? I guess so. Prolly is Not Probably was selected along with a few other blogs to be on the homepage of Fourteen Teeth. Checkit out here.

Martyn, the Dutch dubstep producer just released another full-length entitled Great Lengths. I'm a big fan of the Dutch electro scene as long as it's not the Rotterdam-native genre, gabber. Martyn's label 3024, which now seems to be based in DC is growing strong and this album is a great addition.

Great Lengths picks up dubstep where 2562 and Appleblim left off last, combining more positive dance tones to a genre often littered with dark and deep beats. Whereas D1, Coki and Loefah summon basslines that will make your stomach reverberate and ears bleed, Martyn creates beats that overlap to create a complex musical scenery. Almost Detroit house-esque in some senses but with broken beats and dubstep basslines along the way.
Eindhoven, his hometown and Rotterdam, where he lived for 5 years greatly influenced this album. Eindhoven was the stronghold for Chicago and Detroit house in Holland around the early 90's. Since then, Rotterdam and the Hague have begun to pick up on the house scene and artists like Legowelt have been pushing it for years.
Bottom line, get this album. If you're into electro, house or dubstep, you won't be disappointed.
NIN: Wish live with The Dillinger Escape Plan - Perth, 3.02.09 [HD] from Nine Inch Nails on Vimeo.
Yes, I was into NIN back in the 90's and early 2000's. I'm not ashamed to say so. I was also into early Dillenger Escape Plan. Combine these two bands with NIN's best song off Broken, "Wish" and you've got a great performance!
Thanks to the Bloglin for the heads up.

To follow up on the JAN post, here's a Japanese company called Jam. Confusing enough? Yeah...

Anyway, their newest line is called “Re:cycle de cycling”. The accessories are anodized in the World Champion Stripe colors... I honestly like it.

I can't wait for summer...

As per yesterday's entry on TrakTION, Bike Snob made a pretty good post today. Make sure you head over and read it. I'm not saying I agree with him 100% (Ed Repka designed that shirt FOR Mishka btw), but it's worth reading. Even a Feetbelts plug! Congrats guys. Once Snob pokes at you, you're destined for fame.
Read TrakTION's apology here. As I said. Keep it positive and Ride/Relax.
I had to close comments on the previous post because the Russians got wind of it and sent their spam bots over!

So somehow with my busy schedule I'll be adding posts to Profile Fixed's website. I'm still blown away at how supportive Profile has been with all of this. Really great products and really great people. Grassroots support!
Thanks again guys!
They also just got XML / RSS too, so add them to your reader!
Wait till you see what's in store for the future...

That's what she said... Thanks to Jussi over at Fixed Gear Blog and Tricktrack, I now can post about the new Velocity rims that are due out soon.
"We are working hard on getting this rim to market. If all goes as planned, they should be readily available this spring. It is called the B43, because it is 43mm tall, making it 1mm taller than our very worthy and formidable competition.
It's hard to compare it to the Deep V. The B43 will be heavier than the Deep V, it's hard to say how much yet.
As for multiple drillings of the B43, we do plan on that, you guys doing tricks have been evolving and you're at the point now where you are doing some rather insane manuevers. We were not thinking of going down to a 28h though. Less spokes is usually indicitive of some one wanting light weight, the B43 will not be light.
It is a work in progress, we have actually received two different batches of extrusion and we are not quite satisfied yet. We are seriously considering modifying the design again and making the B43 wider. Can you imagine a 43mm tall rim by 24mm wide with 48 holes?!?! I'd say that would be just about bullet proof.
We definitely plan on doing a variety of drillings, at least 32h, 36h, and 48h. 650c will happen eventually. A variety of colors too. While they won't be the lightest rim on the planet, they shouldn't be a boat anchor either. The final product should be somewhere between 710 to 730 grams. We could make it lighter, but durability is our main concern.
As for price, it looks like we'll at least be competitive. Making good rims is not a cheap endeavor, sure we could source them out and have them made in China, but that would be selling out in my opinion."
I could honestly care less about the depth thing; I know the Velocity rep is taking stabs at the H+Son rims. Deeper for being "aero" on the street doesn't make much sense to me. All I want are some wide rims that won't break. Right now I'm back to Deep Vs because I broke everything else I tested. Sure, I was wrong. I can admit when I'm wrong. No problems there. What I don't like about the Deep V is the width. I want to be able to run 35c tires on them without having the bead pop off and backfire like an old Cadillac. If they were about 3mm wider, I'd say the Deep V was a pretty durable rim.
Tony and I are testing out some Alex G600s right now. They literally look like tanks. About 100 grams heavier than Deep Vs but double walled and wider. Basically twice the material. I retrue my wheels regularly after riding hard on them, but maybe I'll have to true them less now?
We'll keep you posted on how the Alex rims hold up...

I am really really feeling these paintings by Borja Bonaque.

Holy shit. Go read this well-written essay / response by Simon over at Hipster Nascar regarding the Traktion video and Bike Snob's 'counter-point'.
Bike Fight!!!!!
Simon, I gotta say. I just had the longest day ever and that post kept my attention! Good job man.

Been meaning to post this S700 build because the kid is sure plugging the hell out of it! Literally, he plugged the BB drain hole!
Looking like the batch of protos were sold off. Some promising builds coming up I'm sure. Let us know your thoughts. I know it's a "first" in the fixed gear world, so I'm sure it's a new experience for everyone. I can't wait for the new protos to come out. It's only going to get better with time.
From a recent email with Drew at Milwaukee, it seems as though we have an official name for the S700... more to come.

Hey Albany, check out the first Alleycat of the year. Pretty rad idea. Each checkpoint is a fire hydrant.

Jake's new ride looks beastly! Glad to see that rear wheel all done up and on such a noble steed.
I saw this earlier in the week and thought it'd make the perfect Friday the 13th post. Cycling WMD bringing the fire with his Bob Jackson 'trackolantern'!

Seattle, don't forget!

Helped Sasha out with buying parts for his Dick Power. This little beaut came in the mail today! I had an underslung on my Higgins and Ben's recently sold a NOS Luxe on their site.

I love DJ Rupture. Simply one of the best producers / djs out there. His previous release Uproot Was one of the best releases in 2008.
Jace also toured with the Ex's guitarist Andy Moor back in 2007. Bootlegs of their performance have been floating around for a bit, but this is the official release of their performance. The album has great mashups of artists ranging in genres from Edgard Varese to Skream! Andy's distortion pedals and guitar tweaks the beats and Rupture drops it down to a bass-driven mashup. His previous work with Mutamassik and other musicians have shown that Jace has an open mind and can straight slaughter anything he's given!
I guess I'm a tad late on the release, since Amazon says November 2008 and Boomkat says March 2009. Not sure which is more accurate.
The second track is making me want to break shit. So bangin'. It's a surprise though, so you'll have to wait.

Lookin good kid! Doesn't look like you waited 24 hours though....

Continuing with the t-shirt theme...
You remember the Bike Kill 666 patches? Well, Giant has a new shirt called "Goathedz" - which looks innocent and all. Goat head + Pentagram + Chainring = Bike Related. But what's the B.C.? Bicycle Club? Like the Black Label Bike Club patches?
Underground art is always getting bit off by the more mainstream artists. What are the chances right? Maybe I'm just being too cynical...

For what it's worth, this piece by Lamour Supreme, which has been floating around for a while now, seems to have influenced this design by Giant as well... Joel's explanation sums up my feelings on the subject pretty clearly...
Yeah, I can't say for sure but I love Giant's work so it's cool. This image is actually quite old and is documented in some old skool tracksite. It's been in circulation and probably anyone that rides a track bike knows about it. I'm not really one to say I own art and people in the track circles that have used this image know I'm very generous with it. If my drawing inspires people to ride, make art, get a tattoo, then its done its job.
The funny thing is that I emailed him about a year ago with a link to these images and never heard back. Just look out for my new track art because I'm taking it up a notch.
Not trying to call Mike Giant out, so don't get me wrong! Just thought the two examples were kinda closely related, that's all. I think in both cases, the OG pieces are far superior.

Kyoichi, the brains behind 3Bancho over in Japan got Kaera Uehara to pose for him on his new JAN frameset for a Cog Magazine ad in the last issue. The picture in the ad is the best ad in the issue for sure, but this picture taken from the adult film star's blog shows more of her assets.

All the girls who came over from London have done a pretty great job at blogging their trip to NYC so far. So good in fact that they skipped out on the Matchless 2 for 1 night so that they could.... blog.... about their day.
I'm speechless. I would never compromise Matchless' 2 for 1 night to blog. Where else could I let out the air from Nate's tires?

Oh Shit. Oh Shit. Oh Shit. Caspa is dropping his full-length in April. I hate to say it, but the torrent has leaked and I couldn't resist. All I will say is this album brings Dubstep all the way from the humid, hot basements of London to the world in furious beats and vocal blasts!
Look at that list of cameos. MC Dynamite, Rod Azlan, Uncle Sam and Beezy. D1 even helped him out on Victoria's Secret. Both Ave It EPs have been shaking speaker boxes for a bit now and this LP is going to tear down the house. Marmite is reminiscent of the older Dubstep roots while Lon-Don City could easily be played on the radio.
Here's the track list:
01. Intro
02. Low Blow
03. The TakeOver (feat. MC Dynamite)
04. Marmite
05. Riot Powder Intro (feat. Rod Azlan)
06. Riot Powder
07. Lon-Don City (feat. Uncle Sam)
08. The Terminator
09. Rat-A-Tat-Tat (feat. MC Dynamite)
10. Victoria's Secret (feat. D1)

Sigh. I'm not against the "commercialization" of the genre, but it just doesn't flow at all. Chase + Status' track sounds ill as always; it's been in numerous mixes and has a nasty break. Snoop's vocals just sound really weak! They don't flow with the beats. He might as well have chosen any producer(s)...

Outlier has launched their 100% Merino Tee this morning and it's $75. The tee is an ultrafine grade 188 gram, 17.5 micron Merino fiber from the high alps of New Zealand and constructed right here in NYC.
Outlier hooked the Empire riders up yesterday and so far, everyone's stoked. Check their site for their first Merino Wool garment.

A few words from Outlier regarding Merino Wool:
If you're not already familiar with Merino it may be counter intuitive to think about wearing wool next to your skin in the summer heat and still feel cool and dry. But here is why we love Merino wool and you will too.
Our Merino wool is grown in the high alps of New Zealand. These Merino sheep flourish in extreme environments where the land is rugged and free from low lying brush. This allows the Merino's fleece to be super clean and soft, creating the purest and highest quality Merino wool fibers in the world.

Cyclists have known about merino for ages. The classic wool cycling jerseys were all made with merino and the best still are. Long before the era of synthetic fabric, wool was one of the top performance fabrics used in the world of outdoor sports. Even Edmund Hillary wore wool garments on his preeminent climb of Mount Everest. Today, wool is top among performance fabrics for it's refined and improved features.
Wicking, odor resistant, breathable, temperature regulating, quick drying, lightweight, flame retardant (just incase!), washable, soft and super comfortable, Merino wool is completely natural and one of the best performance fabric available.
Here's how it works: Merino fibers have a complex structure with a hydrophobic exterior (water repelling) and a hydrophilic interior (water holding). This makes the fabric dry to the touch yet wicking moisture away from the body at the same time. Combined with your body's ability to create heat, the fabric dries much faster creating a cycle of moisture evaporation. Not only that but it's also odorless and stays that way by being naturally anti-microbial. This means odor doesn't bond to the material because bacteria can't find a solid environment to grow on.
It's temperature regulating because it wicks and stays dry when hot yet generates a very small amount of heat when completely wet through a natural chemical reaction. So when it's hot, you feel dry and comfortable, but when it's cold outside, it holds in your heat creating more.
Merino wool, like anything else, comes in different grades or classes known as Ultafine all the way up to Strong grade. We only work with Ultrafine, Superfine and Fine Merino Wool, so no worries about itching or being uncomfortable. The grades we work with are based on micron measurements (how fine the fibers are in diameter). For example our Empire Merino Tee is a 17.5 grade (the finest available on the market), whereas our hoodies are 19.5 grade (for more structure).
If that's not enough, you can wash and dry it without the extreme shrinkage factor. It'll shrink, but similar to the same amount a cotton tee would and then relax out with wear.
All of this tells you that we're not just creating another garment the same as everyone else. We're selecting and refining our material for the way we think is best for cycling. Our first Merino product is simply a Tee. But as you've just read, it's not quite that simple.

Empire is full throttle [or at full cadence if you will]. Luke and Crihs have been filming non stop with a series of talented videographers helping out. On top of working with Brooklyn-based Outlier on a Merino tee, they're preparing for the series of friends who're due to come to NYC this Summer.

Jason from SF was in town and Luke went out shooting with him. We all watched the footage the other day at Luke's place. He uploaded a still to the Empire blog, so check it out!

I saw this Thomson display set up at Chari and Co this weekend. Gotta love CNC routers. The weight savings even between the 2nd and final phase was considerably noticeable.

My good friend Devotion just finished up his first frame. The complete bike is stunning and definitely a noble steed worthy of his already insane stable. All of his builds seem effortless and completely comfortable. Read below as he describes what went into this work of art...

The build of the bike was very much inspired by British "club racers" and "all-rounders" of the 50's and 60's. Being my first frame, I liked the idea that a single bike could be built to be ridden with a number of intentions. British racers used to ride geared/fendered bikes to the track, often carrying a spare set of track wheels on fork mounted "sprint carriers" and then convert it to a "path racer"...only to re-install the fenders, brakes and other bits before heading home.
Knowing that I will never part with this first frame, I wanted a versatile build that I could set up in a number of ways for the rest of my life. The clamp-ons and 120mm rear spacing mean I can set it up as a fixed-gear, 5 or 10 speed with relative ease. Truth be told, I just wanted an excuse to gather all of the cool old Campy bits. While it does have fender clearance, it's more of a vintage racing bike (traditional racing geometry of 73 degrees parallel) than a vintage rando bike.

Everyday I have similar experiences, except mine aren't 12" of room between their sideview and my bars, mine are more like people pulling in front of me, getting out of the car, calling me "faggot" as they try to tackle me off my bike. People don't like it when you pass them as they sit in gridlock and many take out their frustrations with congestion on cyclists.
Even in the bike lane, especially in South Williamsburg, along Hasid way, I've had mini vans come as close as a foot off my rear wheel going as fast as I can and then pull ahead only to slam on their brakes... I wasn't alone one time. There were at least 5 other people who were with me.
What will it take to get drivers to respect our presence? Tickets? Probably not. Most tickets are thrown out of court. If we had curbed / barricaded bike lanes, we'd be safe(r). The only thing that will get drivers to respect us is when they are the ones on the bikes. Driving in the City isn't a right, it's a privilege and one that should be taxed. There's no reason why subway riders should cope with higher fares when the drivers in this City get away without any tolls.
Bottom line is, keep your wits about you. It's getting warmer out, which means more cyclists, which means more angry drivers. Take the lane if you have to. Wear a helmet, wear lights and be safe. If you're in a compromising situation, get their plate number, take a picture and call the Police.

Clever idea; 6 years old and I never saw it? As Nicole points out, reminds me of a massive bike pile at some post-bike event party.

I got the new Mishka Keep Watch mix on Monday and am just now getting around to listening to it. All I have to say is this; Trouble and Bass kills it. So good. Bassline, Dubstep and general goodness mixed into a 35 minute mashup.

The 2009 Red Hook Criterium is an unsanctioned race through a desolate post-industrial part of Brooklyn. Brakeless track bikes are mandatory for riders. The field will be a mix of semi-professional cyclists, bike messengers, and urban cyclists. The race consists of 16 three quarter-mile laps featuring several hairpin turns, a fast sprint through the parking lot of a chain retailer, a cobblestone stretch, and a sprint finish. Start time for the race is 11pm on Saturday night, and assuming a 2-minute lap time, will last roughly a half-hour. Bus and automobile traffic on the course, even if kept to a minimum, is a near-certainty.
The first person to cross the finish line at the completion of 16 laps will take home $300. The second place finisher will receive a $150 prize, and the third place finisher will pocket $50. Additionally, the first rider to complete the first and eighth laps will receive a prime, or prize, to be announced on race day.
Immediately following the race will be a house party where the podium presentation and distribution of prizes will take place.

March 28th, 2009, Registration at 9:00 pm, Race Start: 11:00 pm
Entry Fee: $10. Prizes: 1st place - $300 | 2nd place - $150 | 3rd place - $50

Rules: Brakeless track bikes AND HELMET required
On Saturday, March 28 the 2009, the Red Hook Criterium will take place and will be be filmed as a competitive sporting event. The film will be produced by Kalim Armstrong (Orange Bikes Take Manhattan, Messenger) and John Hoppin, with assistance from Daniel Leeb (Cinecycle). The race organizer is David August Trimble, and the race director is Al Barouh.
Multiple HD cameras will be set up to film the race. At least one helmet cam will follow race action firsthand. Additionally, a surprise helmet cam shooter may be in town to cover the race. We will have a camera at the podium presentation immediately following the race. Live race commentary and analysis will be provided by John Hoppin and Michael Green (bikeblog NYC).
This project is made possible by the Bicycle Film Festival family, a festival showcaseing films featuring the bicycle in 39 cities annually. The Proud Sponsors of the Red Hook Criterium are the Coffee Den, Katherine’s Homemade Granola, Zafeiropoulou, Trimble Racing, Sam Trimble Design, Taki’s Express, and Roo Design.

Some of you may have caught a post I made last week showing a sneak peak of the aforementioned DQM & HUF messenger bags by Incase. Well, as you also recall it was taken down. Those were older sample pics.

Promising project. Keep watch on their blog for more updates.

Last year Trackstar's Midnight Madness went down in infamy as the longest scavenger race ever. The stories and pictures that followed were uncanny. Be a part of the chaos this year...

Outlier dropped their waxed cotton cycling hat today. To call it a cycling hat is to call a nice premium suit a shirt. These are hats, not to be confused with the ordinary cycling caps that are really popular now.
I wore one on the Empire Wool photo-shoot and was impressed that the cap fit so well for being a cut and sew product. I have a large head and it's hard to find nice hats. It also fit under a helmet, which is a huge plus in my opinion.
Here are some words from Outlier:
To follow up the last release, today Outlier is announcing their Waxed Cotton Cap. Made in collaboration with master milliner Victor Osborne, they designed the cap to fit solid, look great and age to perfection. Waxed cotton (like good whiskey) builds character and develops with time. The colors darken and the fabric's appearance enhances.
Not just another flimsy cycling cap, this is a premium garment that's wind proof, water resistant and ready for those crisp morning rides season after season.

Lookit Wilis looking all dapper!

We can all thank Kyle for scanning in Pedal Speed 1. This pic is really great. Love the vintage path racer hanging in the window adorned with Williams cottered inch pitch cranks and an underslung stem.
The architecture looks pretty interesting too.

I got a nicely packed small USPS box in the mail today. Inside was a grip of stickers and two shirts. Really liking the new Milwaukee Bicycle Co. branding. Whoever is working on this stuff, cheers to you.
Check out the shirts here and the final chosen name for the Milwaukee S700, the Bruiser here!
Rumor has it the new protos will be here soon!

Zach from Open just shot me an email with these this pic attached. A no-handed nose manual. I wanna see video of this!

Kind of interesting spin on the Belgian-born Eddy Merck's logo by Perks and Mini. PAM actually did a pretty good job on this.
Gotta find out when and where it'll be available.

I've seen G.I.D. bikes before, but this one from Cabridge is over the top glow in the dark!

Kinda crazy right?

Big ups man!

...here in NYC. It's warm out, everyone is on a bike and every skatespot / bmx spot is crowded like hell. We were at the Banks early enough to miss all the kids. Had a good time, rode to DUMBO, got kicked out, then rode back to Williamsburg where I broke my BB spindle gapping a stairset.
Overall a pretty good time. Just felt good to be out in a tshirt.

Andy met up with us and took some great shots, check them all out here!

You could always build a mini in your house! This aint the typical Bushwick loft-steez, this is a really well designed house with an integrated miniramp. Love the rafters and the overall space. The mini fits within the architecture...

Bootleg Sessions v.3 -- Trailer #1 from Ride/Relax Productions on Vimeo.
Coming soon! Bootleg Sessions!

After snapping the Campy BB, Drew at Milwaukee had the idea to try out the SRAM / Truvativ Omniums. I've ridden them before, on my Concept and was always impressed with the stiffness of the cranks in general. My only concerns here are the outboard bottom-bracket's bearings getting pitted quickly, but we'll see. Rode them a bit today and no complaints!
Plugged the Fyxomatosis 144BCD ring onto the new Milwaukee STOUT stout I got a bit back and the pairing looks like a battle ax!
Check out some more here.
Michael Green at Bike Blog NYC posted a video short from Fusco Industries showcasing Dave Trimble's Red Hook Criterium from last night. I have to say, I was impressed with the crowd that showed up and even more impressed with K-Tel's 3rd place win. Joan's a normal guy, not a road racer or a track racer. He just trains and it shows.
Big ups man!

Damn dun! Put some ice on it and rest up! Ride / Relax production's all star went in for wrist surgery last week. Can't wait to see you this weekend man. Heal up!
Oi Oi is right!
There, feel better? No Nerve Damage at least!

We've seen the Vallie Components hubs and before that, the Level components hubs. Well, Charge bikes is now making a bolt-on cog hub. I have to be honest, I'm pretty intrigued by these. Is this the face of street track to come?
After stripping the threads out on my Paul hub last year, it sucks to ruin a nice hub. Looks like the bolt-on design eliminates that possibility and also makes it easier to swap out cogs.
Seriously, just a torx wrench! Makes much more sense than carrying a chain whip + lock ring tool around!
Just make sure you torque those bolts like you do your chainring bolts; every other one...
Thanks Juliet!

I cannot imagine the amount of work that went into this model. It took two brothers 9 years to construct and the level of detail is maddening. This particular scene is relevant. Even the stance of the fallen rider was planned.
