COG magazine is giving away three custom laser engraved Brooks Swallow to the winning team of their first annual COG invitational bike polo tournament.
It's this weekend!!! June 5-7 in Milwaukee, WI USA
Why is it that everyone COG does is so dialed? Must be a Milwaukee thing!
Beautiful!
A reader forwarded me this project by Alsop Architecture. They said it was 'right up my alley' and they were very right. When I first saw it, I immediately thought it was an MVRDV project. I was wrong obviously. Hell, I even thought it was a Dutch project. Wrong again. This 8-story project was just completed in Manchester.
The parti model of stacking blocks is very much a dutch approach to architecture. In fact, I'm not ruling out that Alsop used MVRDV as a precedent of sorts for it. The project is entitled Chips and consists of "3 fat chips stacked on top of each other". While most projects relate to the context via vernacular stylings, Chips relates through the use of super graphics.
Each mass has text on it that relates to its surrounding neighborhood.
Pretty rad! Head over to Alsop to see more images.
Finalllllly got this bad rainbow boy completed. Still dialing it in and getting the fit just right, so I can't really give a good report about how it rides.
Definitely not stoked on the tires either, but they'll have to do. Eventually I'd like to put a basket on the front and maybe a longer stem. Or hell, even drops!
Build list:
-61cm Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra SLX New frameset
-Nuovo Record: Headset, front and rear derailleurs, brake calipers, levers and pantographed downtube shifters
-Nuovo Record hubs 36h to Mavic MA4 rims.
-Superleggera Pedals, Cinelli clips and Cinelli straps
-Super Record: non-fluted cranks, pantographed rings and bottom bracket.
-Corsa Record (I know I know...) seatpost
-Concor saddle

I have to thank my dear friend Joel, aka Lamour Supreme, for this belated birthday present. When he said "I have something for you", I suspected it'd be some limited edition toy he splooged on worth millions in Japan. When I saw him 2 weeks ago, he brought out a portfolio and handed me a piece of paper.
It's the original Demon On A Track drawing!!!!
I just got a frame for it and am beyond stoked. This is the best birthday present anyone's ever given me. So bad ass man!
THANK YOU!
Not bad! Bianchi is never afraid to address market shifts. I saw something similar at Interbike this year sans color coordination. The Pista Via Brera addresses the city fixed crowd's desire for a traditional steel townie-influenced fixed gear. All it needs is a fork with a proper crown and a front basket or rack. Maybe a bell too. As always, the guys over at Urban Velo are on top of the game with some more information on the new Bianch Pista Via Brera.
So off-topic, but too good not to post.

Outlier just announced their pre-order for their Summer Shorts. I was over at their place the other day and saw them in person. Very legit. Cinch straps, so no need for a belt. A carabiner loop for your keys, a ulock will fit in the pocket and won't pull them down. Really nicely made with details that will last.
Once we had the first sample made, it clicked immediately, these fabrics would make killer swimsuits too. And then we knew what had to happen, we were going to make sure these shorts would double as a swim trunks and all we needed to do was figure out how to make everything dry fast enough. Our core fabrics are quick drying already, but we needed to work on the pocketing. It took some trial and error but we tracked down some amazing woven supplex, and it was on. We had a pair of shorts that not only looked and felt great, but they dried out faster than our old swim trunks.
Read up here about the pre-order and you'll also find more pictures.

Matt Lingo is a photographer living and working in LA. He's spent a lot of time documenting the local fixed gear scene in San Diego and has just compiled and finished a book entitled This City Can't Swallow Me.
Here's his description of the project:
"A fixed gear bicycle is a bike with a cog that doesn't have a freewheel mechanism meaning as long as the back wheel is moving, the pedals are moving. Although traditionally used strictly on a velodrome track, more and more riders are choosing these brakeless bikes for use on the road. They have a unique style of riding through traffic that I've tried to capture in this body of work."
Head over and check out some of his shots here! and keep watch on his blog here.
Wow. These colors look familiar. Anyone else see resemblance to the Charge Scissor and Milwaukee Bruiser colors?
A reader sent me a link to the Chinese auction site Taoboa selling "Airwalk" fixed gears. She said the two colors available look a lot like the colors picked by Charge and Milwaukee for their bikes and I kinda agree.
Anyone have any more information on these?
Thanks Jenna!
Edit: Calvin from Fixie Pixie just informed me that these bikes are actually Airwalk Fixed Gears. You can read up more here!
Some shop in LA sent Airwalk the MKE geo sheets and asked AFG to make the exact bikes for their shop.
To that shop; I'll say it right now: FUCK YOU. The amount of man hours that was put into the Bruiser is mind-numbing. We took a huge risk at trying something new, debated every centimeter and tested out multiple versions. To take our hard work and copy it, to make a profit is sleazy.
Support Milwaukee. They've been supporting this 'freestyle' stuff for years and will continue to support it. They use the best fabrication and the best materials to make you a bomb-proof bike!
I also want to clarify, I have no issue with Calvin from Fixie Pixie. He was just caught in the middle of this!
Kyle at Tracko posted images of the a new project that Nike is working on with fixed gear cyclists world wide a bit back. More recently, Kyle at DQM was kind enough to get Nike to hook me up with a pair of the shoes. My initial thoughts on them are; ABOUT TIME!
The shoe's insole rests on a hard, almost rigid material similar to chipboard, which stiffens them up considerably. Pairing that with a high-density outsole and a new insole, the City Tiempo is one of the stiffest sneakers I've worn. Here's a shot of the shoes on, sans high socks.
It has a deep heel which holds your feet just right, giving you support and reducing annoying rubbing.
The long indoor soccer like tongue can be tucked into the laces, or left out.
Expect a full review after I put some miles in them and remember, 100% of the profits generated from the LIVESTRONG collection goes directly to the Lance Armstrong Foundation!

This past weekend Doug D from Hardcourt Bike Polo rolled out to this monster gap I've been eying for months with me. It's a pretty decent distance to travel with only about a 14-inch elevation drop over the 11-feet of distance required. On top of that, you have to clear the edge of the second loading dock or your wheels are proper fucked. Here's a better picture of the gap itself.
Drew at Milwaukee used it for the Bruiser page on the Milwaukee site.
Thanks to Doug and the Empire crew for capturing it!

More and more rolling out from the Brooklyn-based duo that run Outlier. After dropping their Summer shorts, they're now releasing their Outlier Summer Edition pants.
Information from Outlier:
As the summertime heat kicks up, we have only one goal in a pair of pants, to make them feel like they aren't there at all. The Outlier Summer Edition pants don't quite make it to that point, but they get about as close as you can while still being worthy of being called pants. Coasting downhill in a nice breeze, you might just reach that promised land and forget you are wearing anything at all. The rest of time? Well you'll just have to settle for some of the lightest, most breathable and best wicking pants around. Then when that summer shower rolls through you'll find these pants are highly water resistant too and you'll actually be quite glad you are clothed.
Our Summerweight fabric is incredibly light for pants, at 180g/m2 it is actually lighter than our Empire Tee merino! It's engineered in Switzerland by Schoeller and there is magic in how they weave it. The outside is tightly woven nylon, forming a durable water resistant shell. The inside is loosely woven Coolmax, forming a soft face that pulls moisture away from your body. The only drawback is that at such a lightweight it's not quite as durable as our core 4Season fabric, but it's remarkably tough for it's weightclass.
The fabric has fractal like surface texture that increases the surface area to amplify both the water resistance and the wicking. The directional 3xDry treatment then amplifies this whole effect again. It's really two treatments in one, the inside sucks in water pulling it to the outer surface and cooling you off. The outside however repels water so you can stay dry in light rain. Add in some stretch, some UV protection plus some antimicrobial properties, and you can probably understand a little why we love this fabric. The best way to know though is though experience, so snap up a pair while they last.
The Summer Editions are available in both our classic OG Pants cut and the new slim Climber cut for $220. The color is a crisp pale gray and the run is super limited, just 18 pairs in each of the two cuts.

Nike Air Zoom Tiempo Cycling Sneaker pt. 1
Straight from Nike.com
Developed specifically for the Nike Sportswear LIVESTRONG Collection, the footwear design team looked at the Nike Tiempo - first launched through the soccer category - and enhanced the shoe with key elements to work with today’s inner city bike rider.
Constructed with a board last, a process referencing ACG’s history, this provides a stiffer construction of the shoe making the pushdown of the pedal stroke easier on the rider. Throughout the construction of the shoe, the designers have increased the density of the rubber and the derometer. Inside the shoe, the sockliner has been updated to also be a bit stiffer, giving support to the foot. The upper of the shoe mirrors the look of the original Tiempo, however has been updated with a tougher leather to last through the wear and tear of the pedal cages may cause.
The City Tiempo pack includes eight colorways inspired by the iconic yellow of LIVESTRONG and was developed in partnership with eight global bike riders dubbed The CTRS. Each color represents a different rider and their respective city. The eight riders include; Kyle Demers from New York City, Jupiter Desphy from Los Angeles, Superted from London, Takaharu “Hal” Okada from Tokyo, Yorgo Tloupas from Paris, Henrik Kuerschner from Berlin, Massan from San Francisco, and Lance Armstrong representing his hometown of Austin.

My boys at OPEN in Boston are doin' big thangs. I'm beyond stoked for these guys, who have built their shop from the ground up and in the short time they've been OPEN, they're growing exponentially!
Check out this update from Zack
We are super stoked to share that we have formed a relationship with Freeman Transport, and are currently stocking soft-goods and very shortly, frames. As of now, we are the only shop formally working with them, which will yield some interesting projects down the road...
As well, our relationship with Traitor Cycles has been going great - there are a decent number of them moving around Boston, and Joe @ Traitor is a great dude to work with! We have a killer project with them in the works...
We're also stoked to announce that we are working with three of the most exciting young frame builders in the Northeast who happen to represent the various methods of steel construction quite well - Icarus (Fillet Brazed), Geekhouse (TIG Welded) and Royal H Cycles (Lugged). As the exclusive dealer of these three bright and innovative builders, we work with clients thought the entire process of designing their dream bikes, from in-depth fittings to component specification. By mid-next week, we will have frames from each of them in the shop for sale.
I'm impressed by this classic little gallery that just popped up on Milano Fixed. The ladies are in wool jerseys, wearing cycling hats, shorts and even wooden-soled-cycling shoes on.
Thank you Cicli Berlinetta and Tino Pohlmann for doing it proper!!

It's always refreshing to see Sam Miller ride and Tom LaMarche has what I'm calling the longest nose mannie on a fixed gear to date in his section!
I'm also super impressed with the editing and super stoked to see 4 come out next year!

Speaking of sea beasties, I had my last session with Duke Riley at East River Tattoo last night. He finished my behemoth and it looks phenomenal. There really isn't a better artist for this job. I think it was this piece that got me excited to work with him.
Growing up on the coast of NC and surfing the OBX and hurricane swells, you have to have heard of the sandbars littering the coast referred to as the 'Graveyard of the Atlantic'. These sandbars used to wreck ships and still to this day, can be a treacherous area to navigate. Sailors used to tell tall tales of giant beasts that devoured ships whole and killed the crew.
Well, this is inspired from such a beast. I found an old sailing chart from the 15th century and used that as a precedent. Duke's handy-work did the rest!
Check out more pics here!
This story seems to be repeating itself quit frequently. If drivers knew they could face a prison sentence for assault with a deadly weapon, maybe they'd think twice about using their car to attack cyclists. A friend of mine had a driver chase after him with his SUV and when he went to get onto the pedestrian path, the driver DROVE UP THE PATH after him. Cops eventually came out and the driver claimed my friend had hit his car, damaging it. Which was false. The cops took the driver's side and issued my friend a ticket for fleeing the scene.
Rewind a bit; the driver DROVE up the pedestrian path to block my friend's path. The safety zone for pedestrians in this city. What should the NYPD do to drivers engaging in this behavior?
My answer: BURN EM.

Jeff at All-City's stokometer is off the charts right now with his new production model Big Block track end. Lookin good man! Let's see the rest of them pics dude.

Velo New's own Ben Delaney had a shattering experience with a post-recall Mavic R-Sys front wheel. Who says blonds have more fun?

Brad at Urban Velo just sent me these shots from MPLS' Tricks and Drinks night just seconds after Jeff at Bike Jerks sent me these pics. Jesse Hilliard and Mike Carney killing it!
Outlier's hustlin! More Summer drops. I loved their last hat collaboration with Victor Osborne and just now they released a Summer version.
Read up below:
We created the Summer Storm cap with the aim of making something as refreshing and unexpected as a summer thundershower. We started with an elegant Zegna wool suiting, but made it completely waterproof and breathable. It's laminated with a membrane that allows moisture vapor to escape, but blocks water droplets when raining. So you get the best of both performance and class.
Unlike traditional cycling caps, it's a lined cap. The supplex lining we use has a soft handfeel like traditional cap lining, yet is quick drying and completely breathable. The lining also means it's a lot more durable than your average cap, with a much more finished look and feel.
As with all our caps, we work with the master milliner Victor Osborne to get a precise fit. A small is 21.5 inches naturally and stretches to 22.5. A medium is 22.5 inches naturally and stretches to 23.5. A large is 23.5 inches naturally and stretches to 24.5. A traditional look with a modified four panel construction made in New York City
And the Summer shorts just dropped too! WSDIA modeling now? Lookin good guys!

I'm only guessing due to this post on the Chari & Co blog. The label is right there in your face. Looks like they're working with Steven Alan on a 'flannel riding shirt'. Looks good so far. This Sunday, if you're in NYC early for the Bicycle Film Fest be sure to swing through Wilis' birthday event at East River Bar.
Thought this was funny. Look at that geometry! And those bars! Clearly, the owner of that bike needs a smaller frame with that saddle to bar drop!
Amongst Friends has released their Summer '09 line and this one piece made me chuckle.
Thanks for the heads up Mr. Fast. Via Format's blog.

Jesse Hilliard wants a piece of the pie too. A day or so after Carney filmed the flat rail, Jesse went out and shot it as well. Jesse has his front tire on the rail, as well as his nds crank and bb shell. Pretty legit. Head over to the Bike Jerks blog to read more about it and Jesse's bike. Seriously. A feeble grind on a janky-ass fixed gear. Gnar!

Ed Glazar shot this sequence back at the Bicycle Fetish Day. Last Fall I landed one of these and have been dialing it in since. It was hard for me not to post videos or pics of it until after Bootleg 3 came out, but this is a pretty good image sequence. Click on the image for a higher-res image. You can also catch more of Ed's work in this week's Joyride Art Show for the BFF.
If you wanna see a video, you'll have to get BLS3!
Wonka Rail from John Prolly on Vimeo.
I can't tell you guys how long I've heard Ed say he's going to do this rail. It's been months. He did one the other day with some BMX videographers for an unsaid BMX commercial (more to come?) and yesterday he hit this rail with ease on the first try. When I got my camera out, he ate shit at least a dozen tries until landing this.
Big ups man!
Here's a sneak peak of a mystery rider ballin' out at the Brooklyn Banks. Expect a short Bicycle Film Festival 2009 edit to come after this week is over.

Faret Cycle Night 3 from nb on Vimeo.
Peep this video of the last Faret Cycle Night in Tachikawa. Favorite part was the guy on the legit track bike with drops doing a massive roll-out. Shame he didn't land it! Still, it was really dialed. Also a bunnyhop comp, which we'll be doing this Saturday. Who do you think will max it out and at what height?
If you're on the fence about coming to NYC for the BFF2009 and you're undecided about where to stay, check out the ACE Hotel. Great location, relatively inexpensive rates and hey, just look at what they're offering you to stay with them!

WTF is OPFD? Outlier | Prolly Fathers Day! Duh.
Without our dad's we wouldn't be here riding our bikes. So in honor of our dad's Outlier and Prolly Is Not Probably are teaming up Brooklyn style to create #OPFD, the Father's Day Contest to win free shit shorts. That's right, Father's Day basically marks the start of summer and we are giving away a pair of Outlier's Summer Shorts.
Step 1:
Cut a hole in the box.
If you don't have a twitter account, get one.
Step 2:
Follow @JohnProlly and @OutlierTailored
Step 3:
Use all your resources to come up with the best picture of a dad you can find. Bonus points if it involves bikes, cracks us up and all around creativity. But really anything goes, the winner is whichever photo we think we like the most.
Step 4:
Post it to your twitter account and use the hash tag #OPFD in your post (That stands for Outlier Prolly Father's Day.) This is how we track all the pics.
Step 5:
That's it. On Father's Day we pick the best one and if you've won we'll send you a direct message on Monday. Best picture will get posted and you'll win a pair of the Outlier Summer Shorts. Easy.
Flying Coffin's new Summer line will be released June 22nd in their webstore and should be making its way to your local stockists shortly.
Looks great man. Keep it up! Loving the new play on the Bonegram shirt!

Thanks to Create 2 Destroy for the heads!

I've been working with Mike Jones and Mikhail at Mishka for a few weeks now on this logo. They finished it up last night and I'm beyond stoked on it. Thanks duders. Wonka's piece is pretty rad. That's his old beat-to-shit Iro.
Wonka's one of the few fixed gear riders who fits into a BMX video quite well. This one by Scott Marceau is a prime example. Cameo at 1:20. Some good footage of Darryl killing it inside Post, the Wburg bmx shop.
Even though it rained, we still threw down the Track Events. More details to follow, but Andy T. has some pics up here!
... and come by the Freeman Transport closing party after you catch the rest of the BFF09 screenings!
More updates to come as well as another edit and a ton of pics!

Chris Habib, aka Visitor Design is a rare find. He's one of those native-NY'rs who has crazy stories about growing up in the art scene here. Not only has he filmed Sonic Youth on numerous occasions, but he supplied / designed rugs for some of Richard Kern's most provocative photo shoots.
He made this for me, both in digital and stencil form and I am beside myself. Unfortunately, it's a little too NSFW to be the banner for the site. But thanks Chris!
These were the people who I hung out with during the 2009 BFF week here in NY. Great peeps from all over. The Third Coast Fixed crew came from Texas, James Newman was in from SF and the rest are NY'rs. Yes, that's a water bottle being thrown at Wilis, the photographer by James.
I met a ton of awesome people who all became inspired in one way or the other through the bicycle. The films this year set a new standard. I've never been on the edge of my seat more than when Lucas Brunelle played his NYC short films of alleycats and the new Empire trailer was welcomed with cheers.
A longer write up and video pics are on the way, I'm serious!
There are moments in your professional career where you encounter pure inspiration. For me, this came in the form of the Dutch firm MVRDV's work. When I was in Holland 5 years ago, I rode across the country visiting all of their completed work. Coming out of school and seeing design-intensive, theoretical work actually built, not just talked about was just what I needed to push myself.
Check out this interview with the Dutch Architects as Deutsche Welle TV chats with directors Winy Maas, Jacob van Rijs, and the owners of the Didden Village house, and mentions of the works Westerdokeiland, Rotterdam Market Hall, Parkrand and others.
Steve made these two edits from Saturdays races. Two alleycats, back to back and then the BFF09 Street Festival.
Pretty good stuff in there.

So here we are. A whole ton of pictures from the past 5 days. Jeremiah wall bonk at the Peel Spot on Elliot's my little pony bike.

Jeremiah also makes HOLD FAST straps in Redhook, Brooklyn. These are what I've been riding for the past few months and am in LOVE. Be sure to keep watch here, as we try to sell some more.

Tom Mosher is like an excited lap dog. He loves Tony. He also rides for Volume bikes and began Trick Track.

Here's Tom, Jake and Torey in McCarren park. Madness ensued there so we'll fast forward to the BFF Goldsprints after party.

James Newman tearing it up. Luke Stiles took first that night. Cyclehawk held it down!

Tarck pile outside. I was so drunk, I unlocked my bike and the stack fell!

Onto the next morning at the BFF09 Street Festival. I met up with Freeman Transport. Really amazing products. The internet does not do their handywork justice. I got to ride the Gravel Racer and if I didn't already have a stuffed stable, I'd look into getting one of these!

Here's Wonka, being Wonka.

Burd and Luke looking green.

Wilis raced in the Bridge Battle and got filthy.

The judges at the Track Bike events. Who thought it was a good idea to give those 3 a megaphone? Eric Puckett took first place at the freestyle and Tom and Wonka tied the Bunnyhop, maxing out at 25 1/2".

... and last but not least, Sean smilin!
You can find the rest over at my Flickr.
And across the world, people in Brisbane were taking part in Global Gutz as well! Results for the world-wide race are up here. Good to see some NYC heads finishing it up first in the US.

Thank you Charles. Thank you for writing a great article about bike riding in NYC without complaining, or bashing anyone or anything. Cheers.
Read the full article now because I'm not sure how long they keep their articles up online over at the Huffington Post. This captures the spirit of the editorial...
But this journey is not one that can be undertaken in a car - you'd miss the details, the human scale, and the pace of life as you fly by. Even walking won't do - you won't be able to cover nearly enough ground. To really get to know New York, you've got to ride a bicycle.

OM playing "Flight of the Eagle" off the Conference Of The Birds LP. I am blown away by Emil Amos' contribution to the band, even though he's no Chris Haikus. For those who are unaware, Sleep split into two bands when they broke up, High on Fire and OM.
Both are still great bands and you can find shared characteristics between them. Big thanks to my favorite Hesher blog, ΩߪĮĐĬΔŊ ΘБΣĿΪŜҜ
Hell, if I am gonna post an OM video, I gotta post this Sabbath video. Probably one of the best Sabbath songs ever. I get goosebumps when I watch this shit. Sabbath ruled. For the record, I despise Ozzie's solo music, but the early days of Sabbath are priceless.

Finally, I think that's the longest I've spent on a web edit before. So many clips to sift through and edit. But it covers a good amount of randomness. All the events went on during the BFF09 NYC. As promised, Outlier and Prolly is not Probably teamed up to give away a pair of Outlier Summer Shorts via a Father's Day photo contest. If you recall, the rules were simple. Sign into Twitter and post a picture of your dad before fathers day. Tag the picture with #OPFD and wait. We sifted through all the pictures recently and there were some choice submissions! But only one winner.

After careful review of all the photos that were uploaded, we chose @reportemergency's picture of his dad holding a chimp and his boys taken on a Polaroid.

Word from the factory...they are due to ship next week!
Sorry for the delay, but in an effort to maintain a 42mm chainline with 400mm chainstays and still give you enough room for 38c+ tires we had to re-engineer the bottom bracket area and consequently pushed delivery back a bit.
We would love to show you what we've done, but since the latest heist of our drawings, we aren't so forthgiving anymore. You'll have to trust us.
Thanks to everyone who pre-ordered; we really appreciate your patience.

I'm really glad to see this shoe with no collaborative logos and in black leather. The shape is great for riding and with a black body, almost looks like an old-school cycling shoe. Granted it's a sneaker, so don't expect a super stiff sole, but for $90 and an accessible outlet, Adidas is trying! Next time, stiffen that outsole / insole / sole up guys!

Not much info on this video project. Seems like he's a guy from SF who's momentarily in NYC shooting a project about his journey to Tokyo and Osaka.
Am I on point here? Or way off? Anyway, that's my morning commute. Delancey is one of the funnest streets to smash on in the morning. Nicely shot guys!
Either way, check out the Tokyo to Osaka website.
I love Jack. He's one of my favorite people in NYC. To call his bicycle stable classy is an understatement. Let's see, a Pogliaghi, an Olmo, a Pinarello and I'm sure I'm missing one. A lot of people here ride Cinelli Priest bars on their vintage rode frames. They're super comfortable and ideal for city riding. Unfortunately, the first two generations were prone to shearing off at the clamp.
Jack found this out the hard way last night, coming back from the City. I waited for him at the bottom of the bridge and when he rolled up, that's what I saw!
YIKES!

The Times (London Times) asked Jonathan Williams to illustrate the different biker tribes in their city. Here are my favs:
Above
The Urban Speedster
Clive has a pink, all-in-one lycra leotard, and doesn't see why he ought to be ashamed about that. His bicycle cost many thousands of pounds, and is made of the same sort of stuff as badminton racquets. Clive rides his bicycle every day but, at the weekend, instead of cycling at high speed to his job in the City, he'll cycle at high speed to a bicycle shop. Here, he will spend many more thousands of pounds having bits removed from his bicycle, and replaced by other bits that are almost, but not entirely, exactly the same. Clive's bicycle lives in the living room, in front of the television. He has no wife.
The Sit up and Beg Biker
They don't go very fast, these bikes, but Emily didn't buy hers to get around quickly. She bought it because she liked the leather saddle, and the pretty basket. At first, she used to cycle around staring at the clouds, but the dentist won't let her do that any more. Emily's boyfriend constantly nags her about cycling in ballet pumps, and says she ought to wear some neon lycra. Emily always smiles, sweetly, but she's quite happy in her muted flowing asymmetrical skirts. Although her hems do get caught in the chain.
Where is the fixed gear rider illustration? Just this:
The Fakenger
Lee actually does IT for a small accountancy firm in Fitzrovia, but you would never guess that if you spotted him cycling to work from his home in Hackney. In his camouflage shorts and his cut-off tights, with his bag strapped up high on his back and his special shoes that don’t let him take his feet off the pedals, ever, he’s a dead ringer for a bona fide cycle courier. His bike has no gears and no brakes, and is festooned with tatty bits of string and masking tape. When Lee sees a bicycle with wheels that are thinner than his own it sends him into a powerful rage. He’d be a real cycle courier if he didn’t get lost so much.
Cheers...

Blows the bikes that Trek did a few months back outta the water. Super Record 11 too. Swiss watch company Hublot teamed up with BMC to produce a, well, limited edition bike.

I remember two years ago when Tom started riding for SAG. He had these bright pink double straps that were just prototypes at the moment. That was when everyone was going apeshit for Toshis and to see something different was refreshing.
Well, now SAG has released their iconic doubles in 4 colors; white, black, neon pink and green. They've made some improvements and you can get them here at PBI for $65 USD. Not bad!

Everyone seems to be doing Summer rides now. 6 riders (5 fixed 1 road) are taking a trip from SF to LA on their Endless Summer. Follow the tour here at their Fatlace blog or here at the House Of Commons site.

-Broadway being all f'ed up this year [check]
-Fireworks [check]
-Holiday traffic [check]
-50+ riders [check]
-NASTY hills uptown [check]
-Drunken idiots everywhere [check]
You down?

KEO CURRY at the WOLFPACK ALL CITY RACE 3 from john maniquis on Vimeo.
John Maniquis shot some "back-stage" footage of Keo being filmed by I'm assuming David Rowe's for his "new flick".
He does his signature footplant spin and some other 'Keo' moves.
Last weekend Chris and I rode around Manhattan with Andy T. He was on his BMX and we were on our fixed gears. I hit the ledge drop at the health dept. We rode around looking for new spots to ride. The spots in Midtown were busts (surprise surprise) and we found some new places that would have been ill to skate, but too tight for 700c. It was great riding through the City on the weekend though. Always refreshing.
Here's a shot of Andy grinding the GC ledge. Kid's getting better!
Wow. Bridgestone / Anchor really blew me away with this. Seriously. Their 10th Anniversay marks the release of the RNC7 Pro, a steel road bike equipped with Dura Ace and beautiful half-lugs.
Their site, although in Japanese seems to say that through re-examining the stresses found in OS tubing, they found that it added uneeded weight and drag. The solution? They made molds by pumping oil to the tube to form the unique shape which enabled them to attach the tubes without lugs. A technique they used on their MTBs back in the '90s. Really rad. I want one!

Here's another look at the aforementioned collaboration between Chari & Co and Steven Alan. From their description over at Style.com, it sounds like the project is going to be pretty legit. More information will be posted here as events warrant. Read up below:
The latest riding enthusiast to try his hand at bike-friendly gear? Steven Alan. Alan's new flannel riding shirt—designed in conjunction with Lower East Side track-and-fixie mecca Chari & Co.—has a long tail to cover your ass and a Velcro-fastened rip-open chest pocket that's been relocated to a messenger-bag-friendly position. There are also sweatshirt-style ribbed cuffs on the sleeves, sturdy snaps on the placket, and what's being called a "hunting pocket" zippered into the back. Unless your cycling is a lot different than our cycling, we're thinking this is more for a banana, an MP3 player, and a portable pump than for, say, upland game—but then again, who are we to tell you how to roll?
