This City Can’t Swallow Me

Matt Lingo is a photographer living and working in LA. He’s spent a lot of time documenting the local fixed gear scene in San Diego and has just compiled and finished a book entitled This City Can’t Swallow Me.

Here’s his description of the project:

“A fixed gear bicycle is a bike with a cog that doesn’t have a freewheel mechanism meaning as long as the back wheel is moving, the pedals are moving. Although traditionally used strictly on a velodrome track, more and more riders are choosing these brakeless bikes for use on the road. They have a unique style of riding through traffic that I’ve tried to capture in this body of work.”

Head over and check out some of his shots here! and keep watch on his blog here.

  • Dirty Dozen

Great black and white photo. Whether it’s known or not, thats the top of Laurel street in S.D. Notice how the stop signs are positioned after the inner section right at the crest of the drop. That’s one of the gnarliest hits in Sandy Eggo.

    Thanks for the post.
