Feather Cycles for Tokyo Fixed Gear and Tied Together

I usually don’t like posting twice in one day about a specific brand or builder but I’ll make an exception for this one! Ricky from Feather Cycles teamed up with Tokyo Fixed Gear to build an insane webbed-lug track bike for Nike’s Tied Together project. This is hands down one of the best bikes I’ve ever seen built for a collaborative project. Hot damn! I think we found the bike from this Akira-inspired poster!

Beautiful Bicycles

    so sexy!

The little details are the best part: the thin black line on the inside, the black fade on the dropouts, the little ad decals. And the matte red paint? So sexy.

I’m really wondering why the disc is a quick release though. Entire project FAIL.

    Amazing!

So friggin’ sick… Makes me want to do my own Akira bike and make it even sicker… Beautiful beautiful bike, I’m wondering about the quick release too but I don’t really care.

Damn there goes my plans to build an akira bike.

my guess is that the QR was a do-what-you-can-with-what-you-have sort of deal. Someone had a QR disk wheel…and they used it in lieu of buying a new Comete or 1080 or whatever. They could’ve changed to a bolt-on skewer, but finding the right spacing would probably be hard.

I’m pretty sure on a project like that under Nike’s budget they could afford both solutions and it saddens me. Specially that thirty dollar hollow pin chain on a $300+ could-have-been NJS drivetrain. :[
Should’ve rocked a Shadow halflink. HA!

When you’re building a complete theme bike in two weeks I’m sure a LOT of things are do what you can with what you have.

  • thomas

To be truly accurate, the bike would need a drive train to the front wheel.

    jus’ sayin’…
