A Day in 10 Photos: 08.28.2010

ADayin10photos-06-PINP.jpg

Saturday was a busy busy day. Jon from Atlanta came into town for the weekend and Tony Fast came up from Philly. All Jon wanted to do was race at the track all weekend and Tony just wanted to ride. With the Yowelli jam going on, we headed out early in the morning to catch some of the late-summer sun. Guys were going big, as you can see!

A Day in 10 Photos: 08.26.2010

ADayn10Photos-01-PINP.jpg

There's been a lot of buzz about Rapha on this blog as of late and that's because the Rapha Cycling Club has been throwing some awesome events. Last night I attended the Fastest Mechanic in NYC competition. I left Brooklyn 30 minutes before starting time, got there in about 10 minutes and man, the place was packed!

Check out nine more photos below.

A Day in 10 Photos: 08.22.2010

ADayin10Photos-01-PINP.jpg

Unlike most Sundays, today I spent mine checking out motorcycles. Just around the corner from my house was the NYC Vintage Motorcycle Show. Bikers from all over, as long as they're from before the 1980's came to North 14th street to show off their bikes, trophies and stories. The above photo is probably my favorite from the day but you can check out nine more below!

A Day in 10 Photos: 08.15.2010

Since I no longer work in the city and my daily interaction with the avenues and cross-streets are usually confined to returning from Central Park laps, I rarely go over the bridge to hang out. With the weather cooling down, I decided to make the Sunday trek across the bridge and see some friends. First up was Rapha's Cycling Club for a coffee and to shoot Cassidy's tattoo. Pretty good right?

A Day in 10 Photos: 08.10.2010

Yes, today was an awesome day. The weather was hot and humid and that meant one thing: mid-day bike rides in Central Park. Putting on the Peal Izumi and filling up the water bottles with all ice is the best remedy for the heat. So I left my apartment after fighting with Verizon and headed into Central Park via the 59th St. Bridge.

A Day in 10 Photos: 07.31.2010

If you haven't picked up on this yet, I'm on vacation. Even if it seems like I'm traveling a lot lately, it's usually not a real vacation. You know the kind where you do nothing but sit on the beach, drink and eat. Even with the summer thunderstorms southeastern North Carolina is known for, the weather's been fairly nice. That is until we decided to go fishing the other day. Even in the dog days of summer, the rain gets to people.

A Day in 10 Photos 07.18.2010

Last Sunday was the final day in the Summer Fix LA schedule of events. We were all beat, sunburnt and ready to relax. Some of us were more ready to relax than others...

A Day in 10 Photos 07.17.2010

Well it's been a whirlwind of a week since I've gotten back from Los Angeles. LA Brakeless' Summer Fix event was one hell of a time. It was hands down the biggest fixed freestyle comp, trumping all others in many aspects and in others, adding a new perspective to the sport. These photos are way past due, so without anymore beating around the bush, here they are. It's great to see Slaylor back on a bike and acting like his usual self!

A Day in 10 Photos 07.16.2010

It's been a few days since the last A Day in 10 Photos entry. Now that I'm back in NYC, I'll be updating daily with photos from my trip to LA for the LA Brakeless Summer Fix. Friday, unlike Thursday, was spent on the bike most of the day. A small crew of riders met at LA Brakeless and we all rode Venice beach. That's where Wonka's barspin took place (remember?). At any rate, seeing a real life internet meme was pretty funny.

A Day in 10 Photos: 07.15.2010

Traveling with your bike can sometimes be a royal pain in the ass. The day before I left to come to LA, I flat-spotted a rim, casing it on a ledge, cracked a bolt in my stem in half, rendering it useless and found out that after a long life, my bottom bracket spindle was shot. Knowing that I was flying to LA for the Summer Fix event, I packed up my bruised Bruiser and hoped for the best.

A Day in 10 Photos 07.08.2010

No matter how much water you drank yesterday, the heat and humidity in the island of concrete and asphalt was too much. I'm not one to usually complain about heat, since I'm from the South but NYC's a different kind of beast. With all the buses, cars cluttering the miles and miles of roads, it gets a bit sticky here. Yesterday Tom and Tony decided to come up to NYC and while Tom was busy being famous, Tony and I rode around.

Check out more photos below.

A Day in 10 Photos 07.06.2010

It's been like hell on Earth here in NYC the past two days. With temperatures well above 100° F, the entire 5 Burroughs are feeling the pressure! I couldn't even manage to stay outside long enough to take photos so I headed to a few shops in lower Manhattan to say hey to some friends. First up was Bicycle Habitat's newly-opened expansion. With bike shops becoming ever-so-popular nowadays, some shops are opening separate wings that focus on high-end components and frames.

A Day in 10 Photos 07.04.2010

Like most (if not all) of Americuhhhhh yesterday, I celebrated the 4th of July the best way I knew how: with friends. A crew of us went over to the Mishka party at the Water Taxi Beach in Queens for their "Red, White & Brews" party. The day was filled with pale bodies, patriotism and tattoos.

Check out more photos below.

A Day in 10 Photos 07.01.2010

Tonight was the opening reception at Rapha's Cycling Club in the East Village in NYC. I swung through earlier in the day to see how they were doing and saw that everyone was frantically putting the finishing touches on the space so I left and came back for the party.

A Day in 10 Photos 06.25.2010

Friday was a busy one. After a photo shoot, I headed over to the Ladies Army II polo tournament that just so happened to be down the block from my apartment. I've never seen such a well-organized and official polo tournament in my life, nor have I ever seen so many women playing polo in general. It was a real scorcher that day, with temps in the 90's.

A Day in 10 Photos 06.24.2010

With the temperatures in the 90's today, all of the city was soaking with sweat. Still though, with the heat comes energy and sometimes animals perish for the humor of others.

A Day in 10 Photos 06.22.2010

There are few things that get me stoked like a gorgeous track bike. This Guerciotti is parked at Continuum Cycles just waiting to be ridden. Someone get on that! After everyone left this week, I was going through Texas withdrawals on Tuesday and the only thing that kept me calm was riding around my city.

Check out more photos below.

A Day in 10 Photos 06.19.2010

Come Sunday, everyone was barely able to walk, much less ride but somehow we all got up the energy to head over into the city to catch the world premiere of Empire at the last day of the Bicycle Film Festival. After two years in the making, the guys were finally ready to play the first cut of the film.

Check out some more photos from the premiere below!

A Day in 10 Photos: 06.18.2010

Last Saturday was the 10th Annual Bicycle Film Festival street party in NYC. The vendors were out, cyclists were out and the BMX / Big Bike / Fixed scene was present in full force. All the locals were there, along with some of the countries biggest riders.

It was too much to cover in 10 photos, but I did my best! Check out the rest below!

A Day in 10 Photos 06.18.2010

Friday began like every other morning last week: slow and groggy. The guys from Texas were like cesium in the glass of drinking water and I don't think any of us were prepared for the amount of nonsense that we were going to engage in. When we finally left the house, the need for u-locks was non-existent.

Check out more photos below.
