I Know I Know
It’s been a long couple of days on the road for the ATOC this year. Mostly filled with the riding to blogging ratio tipped towards saddle time. The trip has been very productive, while veering a little to the left of the norm. I didn’t find myself in a neutral support car, or scouring the crowds at the start of the race. Instead, we soaked up the riding that the various host cities had to offer.
Tomorrow morning (read: in 7 hours), I’ll be at the start of the 2013 ATOC in SF and then at the Rapha Cycle Club for my photo show all day. Swing by both to catch up!
It Was a Great Morning Upon Gibraltar
So as you can tell, there hasn’t been much coverage from the ATOC. Instead of following the race each day, we’ve been riding in the cities that are hosting the race. Today, we woke up and hit Gibraltar. Or rather, Gibraltar hit us. It was amazing and there will be more details once my film gets developed. For now, this iPhone photo looks mad decent.

Beautiful Bicycle: Jesse’s Hufnagel Fire Road Racer
Ok, brace yourselves here. This bike is absolutely stunning. It’s no secret that Jordan Hufnagel made some Beautiful Bicycles in his days as a frame builder and I feel like in the last few months of his torch time, the bikes he built were so full of class and character. Ty’s cross, his own porteur and Jesse’s “Fire Road Racer”.
When you are from LA, you’re very familiar with the various fire roads and singletrack off-shoots. After spending time on his road bike, carefully descending down these rutted and rocky descents, Jesse decided it was time for a more fitting vehicle… See more in Gallery!
Afternoon Cup at Flat Track Coffee
I don’t need to write some clever dialoge about how people love their local coffee shops. Since moving to Austin, the coffee options have grown considerably and one of the first people I met in Austin who really got coffee was Matty B.
For the past few months, he and Sterling have been working on Flat Track Coffee. They went from delivering beans to businesses and selling to individuals directly, to opening a small shop in Austin’s East Side. It’s literally three blocks from my house and has become a post-ride staple, as well as an afternoon pick me up.

Outlier for Women
For over 8 months now, Lauren has been loving her Outlier women’s shorts and I wish I had taken more photos of them while shooting her Icarus because they fit her like a glove! Here’s the scoop on the full Outlier women’s line:

Beautiful Bicycle: Woody’s All-City Thunderdome Track
Talk to anyone on the US Olympic track team and they’ll tell you that Woody’s one solid wrench. Not only that, but he holds down the repairs at Golden Saddle Cyclery and coaches in his part time. Bottom line, Woody’s one solid fella who knows his way around the velodrome.
After recovering from a MTB wreck, where he broke his femur and clavicle, Jeff from All-City set him up with an Thunderdome track frame to aid in his physical therapy. With a machine like this, no one would need any more encouragement to hit the boards. This was one of the first track bikes I’ve shot where the tires weren’t allowed to touch the ground, save for the photos…
Giro is Chasing Speed with the Air Attack Helmet

Sometimes, using your critiques to fuel your creativity is the best route. Case in point is Giro’s Air Attack helmet. Some love it, others hate it, calling it a “skate helmet”, regardless of how aerodynamic it is. With that in mind, they took Ty out to a local skate park in Santa Cruz and let him chase speed around the bowl on a Cervelo…

Jesse Carmody Captures What Los Angeles Means to Me in One Photo

I was flipping through Jesse’s Flickr after finishing up our ride yesterday and came across this photo. When I think of Los Angeles, this is what comes to mind: fire roads and singletrack carving through the hills and mountains, with a sprawling city in the background. Great photo man!
Traitor Cycle’s 2013 Crusade Disc Cross
It’s been a while since I’ve heard anything from Traitor Cycles but this is nice return! Introducing the Crusade disc:
“For 2013 the Crusade is going to disc only for braking options and features a new custom dropout system we designed to run gears or singlespeed. We will have two sets of dropouts available, one set with a derailler mount and one without for a cleaner singlespeed look. The nice thing about the new dropout system is that singlespeed racers can now run a rear wheel with a QR and can pop their wheel in and out without having to re-tension the wheel.
The Crusade continues to have internal full length cable routing for the rear brake for a clean look and ease of shouldering the bike. The framesets will be available mid to late summer and will retail for $599 for the frame and fork. The frame will feature a Race Butted Founderland Seamless Chromoly for the frame material.”
