Dark Side of the Moon… unit!

I love the PAUL Components Touring Cantis. I’ve had them on my touring bike, my cross bike and just about everyone I know has them on at least one of their bikes. They’re a classic, no-nonsense cantilever brake. Unlike many cantilevers, these arms are angled upwards. This gives the brake a much narrower profile without significantly reducing stopping power.

As a throwback to the 80′s MTB era of bright anodizing, I teamed up with PAUL to produce yet another run of purple Touring Cantis and matching Moon Units.

*Please note: The anodizing is less blue than shown here, it tends to be more magenta, much like the purple anodizing from the 80′s. It’s hard to get the tone right in these photos.

Moment Industries: Made in the USA Disk Rotors

With the popularity of disk brakes on cross and (gasp) road bikes, it’s nice to see some made in the USA options available. That aside, I can’t get over how metal this looks. Like something out of ancient Alemannic imagery. Here’s the gist:

“Moment Industries has designed and manufactured rotors for the last seven years. They recently introduced the “Storm” rotor which is laser cut and manufactured in California. The Storm is offered in 160mm – 185mm – 203mm. Considering the majority of 2013 cyclocross bikes will come standard with 160mm disk brakes like the Marin Cortina (shown in the photo) this shift will allow riders to upgrade the components to better fit their style.

MOMENT brake rotors are forged from 410 series straight-chromium stainless steel for superior corrosion resistance, heat-treated to superior hardness at temperatures in excess of a 1000°F, then double disc-ground for guaranteed removal of imperfections.

Everyone loves the eeCycle Works brakes. They’re made in the USA and deliver incredible stopping power. The first time I got to see a pair on a bike in person, it was when I was in Melbourne. Justin’s Firefly had them and I couldn’t get over how rad they were and they better be for that pricepoint!
