Fast Boy Visits J.P. Weigle

I love Peter Weigle. He’s one of the nicest frame builders you’ll ever meet and even though I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting Ezra before, I’d say he’s a pretty nice guy as well. Both Fastboy and Peter’s bicycles have provided me with tons of inspiration and seeing them come together via Ezra’s lens is not to be missed… and even Jamie Swan was there! Check out more photos at the Fast Boy Flickr.

Inspired to #GoYonder with Frontage Roads

YonderFrontageRoads

One of the reasons why I’m so pumped on Yonder Journal is that it will and has inspired people to #GoYonder. Errin from Frontage Roads did some planning and took on the Brovet 01 Old Ridge Road Permanent route with his buddy Joshua. So, how’d they do? Head over to Frontage Roads to find out.

Oh and be sure to stay on top of Yonder Journal. Their Field Briefs are short and sweet. Follow the guys on Instagram, too.

2013 NAHBS: Geekhouse Bike Photos by Heather McGrath

2013 NAHBS Geekhouse Bikes!

Over the past few years, the crew at Geekhouse Bikes have slowly grown apart from their brightly-colored, low-pro, bent seat tube, triple triangle track bikes that they became so well known for. This slow and steady move towards class, with a bit of sass has culminated in their 2013 NAHBS offerings in Denver. New this year are the Brentwood Porteur and Hopedale Light Tourer. Both bikes would make ideal vehicles for a weekend camping trip, or around town jaunts. These models will be available in conjunction with Geekhouses’ already established models. Let me just say the brightly-colored Mudville singlespeed disk cross looks so dialed. Even the Adria Klora-designed graphics are top notch. Well done guys!

Map Cycles: Threadless Randonneur Project Stem

MapStem

This is a beautiful photo of a beautiful stem, Mitch. I’m getting so pumped on NAHBS, I can smell the flux. Even if Map Cycles isn’t going to be in attendance, he’ll be there in spirit. Over the past few years, I’ve really come to admire Mitch’s work and his new digs in Chico seems to be working out quite nicely.

Winter Bicycles for Box Dog Bikes: Pelican Randonneur Production Run

It’s not easy finding a frame builder to crank out a production run on bikes. Most builders are slammed, with full queues and lack the facilities to undertake even a small batch. But when Box Dog Bikes approached Eric at Winter about making six of their Pelican randonneur frames, he couldn’t resist. There’s a whole Winter Flickr set outlining the process and more information can be found at Box Dog Bikes. Regarding ordering, call the shop!

Beautiful Bicycle: J.P. Weigle Randonneur Bike

Beautiful Bicycle: J.P. Weigle Randonneur Bike

Details, oh the details. This magnificant J.P. Weigle randonneur bike was propped up in the Bicycle Quarterly / Compass Bicycles booth at the Philly Bike Expo this year. And yet, for the life of me, I couldn’t make my way through the crowd to reach Jan Heine or Peter in order to photograph it the first day of the show.

Once I got their attention, I rolled this beauty out into the overcast skies for some lens love. Where do I begin? Herse cranks, SON hub, Mafac brakes, NOT Reynolds 531 decal. It’s impeccable. Even though I’m indifferent about 650B wheels on larger frames, I can surely confess my love for this piece of work. Somehow, the proportions work and this bike just pops. See for yourself in the gallery!
